October 29 - Start of New Internship in New Department

Today I began my second internship at TWEC. I was rehired for the holiday season to work in the Visual Merchandising department. My title is now a Graphic Design intern. I'm working one day a week, so the commute to and from Albany is not as tedious as last semester. I'm not doing this for credit, but instead as a portfolio builder. My two new supervisors are excited for me to start working because I had a good recommendation from the Human Resources department and E-Merchandising department on my work ethic.
I signed several contracts on my internship for the start of my day. I was given a tour of the Visual Merchandising department and assigned my new cubicle and MAC COMPUTER! I was given work right from the start. I began working on projects based on pre-sale merchandise. I was working in Adobe InDesign (THANKFULLY I PRACTICED WITH THE PROGRAM BEFORE I STARTED). I was working with generally pre-made layouts and fonts that were directed towards FYE's branding. I briefly used Adobe Photoshop to edit the pictures I was working with. To obtain the pictures, I was utilizes the movie companys'(?) websites that TWEC subscribes to. It was violate copyright without the permission for the use of the pictures. I worked on about 10-14 different projects for the day.
It was also the Halloween office party. It was a pretty relaxed day for the most part, but I could see the tension from the Christmas rush throughout the office. Everyone was talking about how they were working from home on the weekends. Towards the end of my shift, several of my co-workers brought in their children to trick-or-treat (unfortunately I missed the memo for bringing candy for them). We were also given cider and donoughts.

May 20th

Today was my last day interning at my office. It was beyond different from any other day I have worked. It was actually my least favorite day. Today we had to sort the memorabilia that we were auctioning off and put the certificate of authenticity with each of the pieces. There was so much stuff and it was so unorganized.
I was given cupcakes from my co-workers since my birthday was the next day. It was really nice gesture, and a delicious one!

May 18th

I continued working on the Bullet for my Valentine mailing promos, along with the Drowning Pool mail promos. More buyers ordered the cd's within the past week, so I had more mailings to do.
After the promotions I worked on a Sex and the City promotional webpage since Sex and the 2 is coming to theaters soon. Buyers will receive movie passes with every season dvd they purchase.
After the webpage, I worked on the new DVD release schedule again and did updates to changes that were made to the list.
I did my final Rebate update today too. I will not miss those.

May 13th

Today I did a new release search of DVD's and CD's through Amazon, and compared them to my company's new release schedule. With this information I updated the new release schedule for my company. Lot's of good cd's and dvd's are being released within the next few months!
I also continued doing a Rebate Report File Update.

May 11th

Today, I started another rebate update for upcoming sales and promotions. Since I've started my internship, I'm faster at completing the files now. I also did a mail promotion for Bullet for my Valentine and Drowning Pool's new CD's. I got both of their CD sleeves autographed, which I'm very excited about.

May 10th

Today I was told about a new project my company is working on. It'll be an Ebay auction of collectible memorabilia. My job today was to organization all the certificates of authenticity. There were 500+ but it didn't take that long.
I also did another webpage update for the company website. It was for the "DVD's as low as 4.99" promotion tab. I even searched for CD graphics for other upcoming sales.

May 6th

Today, I had to finish stuffing more of the envelope promotions. It took another couple hours, but I finished them finally. I also started another rebate update file for future promotional uses.

May 4th

Today, was another day of envelope stuffing. It's a very tedious process since I was asked to double stuff envelopes which have multiple buyers. The list of people are not in any order, so it took a couple hours.
I was also given Drowning Pools newest cd today. Another great part of my internship. Free CDs!

April 29th

I got to work on several tasking today Today I got to update the website. It was the TV on DVD: Up to 60% Off section. It was finally something different from the rebate files.
I worked on an envelope stuffing promotion for a couple country bands, like Alan Jackson. Some people ordered numerous copies of the cd's for the promotions since they were autographed cd sleeves. It made me wonder if they sold the autographed sleeves and cd on Ebay afterward.

My boss also sent me a picture of Bullet for My Valentine after they signed Cd sleeves for an upcoming promotion. Very awesome.

April 27th

I didn't even come close to putting a dent in the rebate file from the other day. Today is devoted to getting a lot of the updates done. My supervisor understands the amount of files, so he's not pressuring me to rush because there is time.

April 22nd

Today I was given 800+ more rebates to add to my list. Again, this will be a very time-consuming task.

Day 10: April 20th

I walked into work with 2 Godsmack posters at my desk. It was a pleasant surprise, and it's awesome know my boss appreciate's my interest in music.
Today I talked to my supervisor about press passes for concerts. He has obtained passes through the company for several years, which became a hobby for him. Photographing events and concerts is something I'm interested so his input was very useful. He explained how most press passes only involve the photographer to be along stage for about 15 minutes of the show, which is about three songs from the artist. He said it's very fast-paced and very rushed, so you can't waste any time. He's photographed Rush's show before and even Carrie Underwood.

After our talk, we raided the promotions closet. It was like Christmas to me. I obtained several posters to add to my collection. I was even able to see the autographed guitar that Drowning Pool signed for a contest. I got a picture with it because I cannot win the contests through the company.

After the fun stuff, I got back to working on my rebate files for Fathers Day.

Day 9: April 15

Another day of working on rebate files for future promotions. Several of the promotions are for male-oriented figured since the file is for Father's Day sales.

Day 8: April 15

Today, was back to working on my rebate file updates. There's 400+ updates to work on since there promotions are for Father's Day within the next few months. This project will take me a couple days to complete.

Day 7: April 8th

Today involved different tasks I have not worked on yet. I worked with the sale pricing of pre-leased CD's and DVD's. I liked being able to read the release schedule of all the upcoming CD's and DVD's. I am a music and movie guru, so it is nice knowing I what I have to save up for up until August.
I had to search a lot of the items on the lists to verify the UPC's and Product I.D.'s. This allows the products to be referenced much faster for future promotions.
I also had to search Amazon during this process to make sure all the upcoming CD's and DVD's on my company's list matched Amazon's list.

Day 6 - April 6, 2010

This is my cubicle at work. It's very spacious for only being an intern. Unfortunately, I don't have any neighbors in my aisle. I'm allowed to listen to my Ipod at work, so it's not so bad.

I finally started the 2nd half of my project today. It involved alot of product identification searching through the store website. I also did upgrades to the Blu-ray section of the website. That was exciting because I really like working on websites. I had to be careful not to mess anything up or else I could have erased the whole website.

Day 5- April 5, 2010

Today, I continued to work on the rebate files. It's a very large file. Thankfully, it's organized. I was talking to my supervisor about all the bands he gets connections with, and I told him how Killswitch Engage is my favorite band. He actually had an autograhed cd of their newest cd, and he gave it to me. I definately have the best internship.

Day 4 - March 31, 2010

I continued to work on the rebate file update again. It's very repetitive after awhile, but I'd rather be doing that than making photocopies. My supervisor said once I get the major portion of the update done, the work will be a lot more at ease. It's nice to know he puts himself into my shoes, and understands how dry some of the work can be.

Day 3 Internship - March 29, 2010

I worked on a lot of promotional mailings today. It involved a lot of signed cd sleeves by the artists. Some of the artists consisted of Motion City Soundtrack, Easton Corbin, Katatonia, and several others. This took me a very long time. It was a lot of envelope stuffing, but I only ended up with one papercut!
After I finished that project, I continued working on my weekly spreadsheet of rebates. I'm starting to get the hang of it, so I can work much faster. It's a lot of copy and pasting.

Day 2 Internship - March 25

Today I started one of my weekly projects. It involves the use of Excel going through all the rebates the company uses for its sales. It's a lot of work, but it's definately something I have never done before. It allowed me to see how their sale items are picked in order to generate profit.
I received more positive feedback today. My supervisor is incredibly flexible with my schedule, and understands that I drive over an hour to get to Albany. He commented on my ability to do work quickly, and said I'm very organized, which are two qualities any major employer will look for in a potential employee.

Day 1 Internship - March 23, 2010

My first day of interning was a great experience! I had a tour of Trans World Entertainment, and had a breif orientation. Everyone in my department is incredibly nice and very professional. My first assignment was to critique the FYE.Com website. It was fun being able to my input towards the organization's website. I feel my input was valuable, and I recieved kudos for having organized notes.
I spoke with my supervisor about what my goals were for my internship, and what I wanted to get out of the experience. He said I will not be doing "typical" internship tasks, such as making photocopies. I will be doing a lot of hands-on work within the department. I'm very pleased about that because I will be able to get an in-dept experience that way.
I also put together some promotional mailing materials. I even recieved an autographed copy of Lady Antebellum's cd sleeve.
